First female pilot in Papua New Guinea

It has been along time since independence (16/09/1975) in Papua New Guinea for a female to achieve a level of professionalism which is mostly male dominated; like being a female pilot in the aviation industry.

Papua New Guinea is a multi-cultural country with more than 800 languages alone and a very bio diverse environment, geography and a language that Unites the whole country which is "Papua New Guinea pidgin". The expected duties of men and women are culturally influenced as men are superior, women are helpers, since the dawn of civilization when explorers discovered and set foot on the country. This cultural trait has strongly manifested in the society and deeply rooted ever since.

But nowadays time has changed. The movement of gender equality and violence against women has had a tremendous positive outcome in the women populace. More girls going to school and even girls doing better in school, which saw  positive vibes boosted in Papua New Guinea's womenfolk to venture into fields which were once male dominated like medicine, Engineering, and aviation to name a few.

For a very long time since independence Papua New Guinea has produced her first female pilot. She's captain Beverly Pakii. Captain Pakii comes from a mix parentage of Enga (Father) and Morobe (Mother) provinces.

Captain Pakii attained her status as a captain in 2018 after attaining her command on the folker jet aircraft. Her first commercial flight was on the 4th of January 2018 on folker 100 aircraft PX106/107 where she flew from Port Moresby to Lae and back. With her in the deck is first officer Taylor Yama.

That doesn't make her the first female pilot in the country only, but also the first female pilot to ever train and work with the national airline, Air Niugini.

On the 29th of may 2015, she again created history when she captained the first ever female crew on Air Niugini's subsidiary company, Link PNG's flight PX900/901 from Port Moresby to Tabubil and back.

Captain Pakii's career and achievements is not a surprise since her father was also a pilot now retired. Captain Ted Pakii was an ex Airniugini pilot who joined the airlines from the Papua New Guinea's defence force in 1994. He operated on several aircraft types during his time, starting with Dash 7 and left after achieving his command on the Boeing 767.
