McDonald Taylor is a Papua New Guinean musician, an artist who displayed extraordinary skill and talent in music at a younger age.
McDonald Taylor was born at the Porgera Health Center on the 12th of April 1997 in Enga province,
Papua New Guinea. At the age of 2 years his father bought him a ukulele to lullaby him to sleep . He enjoyed the sounds of the ukulele which it did work on him, he stopped crying every time a ukulele was given/played to him.
At the age of 3 years he was enrolled at a local elementary school, Paiam Elementary in the neighborhood. Everytime walking back and forth from school he used to hear local youths playing acoustic guitars in local string band styles. He discovered one of his cousins, older than him, was among the group so everytime he wanted to play with them, they used to refuse because of his younger age.
His interest in music got so deep that he asked his father to buy him a guitar. The following year in 2001 at 4 years old his father bought him an acoustic guitar. Due to his great interest in music he kept himself busy by learning the different cords and styles. In no time he was able to play and sing which got his father very surprised. His father began to save and invest in his son's talent and skills. In 2006 his father purchased additional music instruments like an electric lead, bass and rythm guitars with amps and sound mixer. He quickly learned and mastered those instruments.
His reputation as a young skilled musician spread in the community which attracted youths around the area to team up and play music with him.
In 2008 a local business man upon hearing about his reputation requested McDonald Taylor to deliver a live performance at his night club. This will be the first commercial performance he did. The event turned out to be a blast. Hugh crowds turned up to the show, and were satisfied at the end. He was only 9 years old.
In 2009 at the age of 10 years old Porgera Joint Venture (PJV) sponsored him to fully record his first ever album under the Reko Sonics Production Studio label in Goroka. After this event his father got more convinced that he purchased him a 2 Yamaha keyboards ( PS21000 and PS900), 2 sets of desktop computers, condenser microphones, drum set, speakers, music and video recording production softwares. This is a complete recording studio set, which he named his new studio, "Mountain Production Studio".
He continued to deliver live shows in his township and nearby provinces. The reputation of his Studio again spread which attracted many artists flocking to him to work in their music.
In 2010 his studio became an affiliate studio to Chin H Min (CHM). He recorded many albums from then on in the likes of people/artists like Michael Wapu of Pangia, Face Max Kelly of Ponowi village in Pangia, Southern Highlands province. Other coastal musicians also came in to work with him like Tom Ronny.
Lately in 2015 Yumi FM 93 and Rait FM recognise his work and began promoting his music which resulted in many of his hit songs hitting the airwaves in top 20 and top 10 countdown.
From then on he delivered many live
Shows around the country like Lae, Madang, Goroka, Enga, OK TEDI, Port Moresby including Cosmo, Sports Inn and Gold Club.
In 2017 he had a visit from Kelvin Bennet, an Australian who was interested in his label and skills, so Kelvin assisted in purchasing an acoustic guitar, condenser microphones and a disco lighting. Kelvin spent a month with MacDonald recording some of his own tracks.
Currently in 2022 more requests are coming in for Mr Wild West, his Stage name, to deliver live shows in provinces around the country.
He has been voted several times in the Papua New Guinea music awards and has won several awards as well.
