Dr Allan Marat has been declared as the newly elected member for Rabaul Open by the National Court in Kokopo, following its decision on the Election Petition case. Justice Manuhu found that a recount of Counts 1 to 5 for the Rabaul Open Seat during the 2022 National General Election was unlawful, resulting in 21 formal votes being rendered informal, which affected the election result. The court determined that Dr Marat's final tally would increase by 21 to 5,210 votes, making him the winner of the 2022 General Elections by 5,210 votes, while the first runner up was Graeme Piniau Rumet with 5,193 votes. Dr Marat accepted the decision calmly and left the court house without making any comments. More information can be found in the Post-Courier on April 3, 2023.
