A press release has been issued announcing the first ever Bougainville Pro-Boxing Tournament and Charity Gala Dinner, set to take place on April 8, 2023 in Arawa, Autonomous Region of Bougainville. The event, sponsored by the National Gaming Control Board and Bougainville Affairs, will showcase 20 male and female amateur boxers, as well as a professional showdown between Indonesia's Ricky Manufoe and PNG's Junior Kauko Raka in the Super Featherweight Division. The tournament is expected to draw visitors and locals alike and will serve as a lead-up event to the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands. The Bougainville and Central Bougainville Amateur Boxing Associations have been working since December 2022 to prepare for the event, and President Lohial Nuau expresses confidence in the boxers' preparations and the technical preparations of the Ground Organising Committee. The theme of this year's event, "Peace to Prosperity," is championed by Patron and Regional Member for Bougainville, Hon. Peter Tsiamalili Jr., who emphasizes the importance of sports as a tool for unifying people and promoting a peaceful cultural mindset. The event's Facebook page, Bougainville Professional Boxing Tournament & Charity Gala Dinner, will showcase profiles of the boxers and updates on the event.
