The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary has recently announced the shortlisting of 13,039 applicants for its latest recruitment drive. This is out of the 48,772 applications received from across the nation for the 560 positions available for both constable and officer cadet positions.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police and Chief of Administration, Joanne Clarkson, this is perhaps the largest number of applications ever received for any police recruitment drive. Ms Clarkson further revealed that the final number of the shortlisted applicants is expected to go up once the screening process is completed for the remaining online applications for the rest of the country.

The interviews for the shortlisted applicants for the National Capital District, Central and Gulf Provinces will commence on Monday, 3rd of April until the 21st of April 2023. These interviews will be conducted at the Rita Flynn court in Port Moresby.

A tentative schedule has also been released for the interviews of shortlisted applicants from the other commands. The interviews for the Northern and Border Commands will commence from May 8 to June 2, for the Highland Eastern End Command from May 8 to May 19, for the Highlands Western End Command from May 8 to June 2, for the Southern and Border Commands from May 22 to June 2, and for the New Guinea Islands Command and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville from June 5 to June 16.

Deputy Commissioner Clarkson emphasized that people will be selected on merit and that the recruitment process will be conducted professionally and transparently. She also sought cooperation and understanding from everyone, given the massive number of shortlisted applicants for the 560 positions.

This latest police recruitment drive is a critical step towards maintaining law and order in Papua New Guinea. It is heartening to see that the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary is taking all necessary measures to ensure that the most competent and deserving candidates are recruited for the positions.
